CoVAMP: Eurekan Biotech collaborates with ACEGID, NCDC, WHO to validate 30-min colorimetric MDx test for COVID-19 Diagnosis

Together with our collaborating partner in Nigeria – Africa Center of Excellence for the Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), we have been able to adapt, optimize and validate CoVAMP (CoVID-19 colorimetric isothermal AMPlification) - a 30-min molecular diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2. The test uses a single isothermal temperature for cDNA synthesis following RNA extraction with standard RNA extraction kits, or with a rapid extraction buffer integrated with CoVAMP.

Nucleic acid amplification in presumptively positive COVID-19 samples can be detected visually from the colorimetric assay – with a significant change in colour observed in the reaction tube.

Following an initial validation exercise at ACEGID in May, 2020; additional validation exercises were conducted at Nigeria CDC's National Reference Laboratory (NRL) from July to November, 2020. At the end of the validation exercises, CoVAMP was adjudged to have comparable results with the current gold standard and reference tests in use.

CoVAMP is also being processed as a CE-IVD kit by our OEM partners in Europe as a ready to use clinically validated kit for COVID-19 in vitro diagnostics.

Eurekan Biotech Wins $150,000 Research Grant

Eurekan Biotech wins a $150,000 research grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the Directorate for Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA) to mine for siRNA "vaccines" from Bat tissues - as possible Ebola & Zika therapeutics.

The preliminary studies and sampling are to cover some African regions affected during the last Ebola pandemic which may include - Nigeria, Sierra-Leone and Liberia. Such studies are being supported to further help Africa prepare for possible future resurgence of these infectious diseases.

The study will be completed by a cohort of African scientists from Eurekan Biotech, Nigeria; ACEGID (African Centre of Excellence for the Genomics of Infectious Diseases) Ede, Nigeria; Bowen University, Iwo, Nigeria; University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Nigeria; and Florida Atlantic University, USA.
